Bluetooth SIG forms new working group focused on fitness gadgets

Posted by on Friday, 10 February, 2012

We’ve been seeing Bluetooth make more and more inroads into fitness gadgets as of late, and it looks like the Bluetooth Special Interest Group is intent on seeing that trend continue. It announced the formation of a new Sports and Fitness Working Group today, which will be tasked with increasing the interoperability between wearable gadgets and other sensors and so-called “hub” devices like smartphones, TVs and gym equipment. That’s a fairly natural fit for Bluetooth now, but it’s taken until Bluetooth 4.0 for the standard to really emerge as a viable alternative to lower-power options like ANT+ (now commonly used in heart rate monitors and the like).

Posted by on Sunday, 29 January, 2012

Digging your 3D TVs, video game consoles and laptops? Thank the past — the New York Public Library is here to remind you that streographic entertainment has been blowing minds for over 100 years, and has the animated gifs to prove it. The Library recently introduced Stereogranimator, a web app that taps into the institution’s large collection of historical stereographs and allows user to convert them into wiggling GIF animations and 3D anaglyphs. The program was inspired by “Reaching for the Out of Reach,” a manual labor of animated stereographs started by San Francisco artist Joshua Heineman. The library currently has over 40,000 pairs of stenographic images just begging to be converted to depth-suggesting wigglepic. Interested? The link is below, friends — go ahead and create your own psudeo-3D view of history. Too lazy to make your own? Fine, read on for a shaky and colorful look at an orange tree.

Google’s Eric Schmidt sees Google TV embedded in most new TVs by summer of 2012

Posted by on Wednesday, 7 December, 2011

Google big dog Eric Schmidt covered a lot of ground in his onstage interview at Le Web this year, but it wasn’t all about iOS vs. Ice Cream Sandwich. It appears that Big G has big plans for Google TV, and the Executive Chairman foresees the platform proliferating to the point that “most” new televisions will have it embedded by the summer of 2012 — that rumored switch from x86 to ARM must be going well. That strikes us as an awfully lofty goal given it’s light market penetration thus far, but with Samsung still on board the Google gravy train and others waiting in the wings, Schmidt just may be right. However, until we see just how many sets are packing Google TV at CES, our skepticism remains — check the interview itself and another video after the break that encapsulates just how we feel on the matter.

Posted by on Tuesday, 6 December, 2011

It won’t be shocking to most in the electronics industry, but the rest of the world probably doesn’t realize that many products use components from other manufacturers and even direct competitors. So much like most hard drives are made by one of only a few companies, there are only about four LCD panel manufacturers. But just because it’s Samsung inside doesn’t make it the same, and in that vein Samsung took pause with the Australian value-minded brand, Kogan, when its commercial very plainly exposed just who makes the panels in its TVs . The cease and desist notice didn’t sit well with Ruslan Kogan, who claims his company never agreed to obscure that fact and that he wouldn’t “conceal the truth from the public.” While we usually wish everyone could just get along, we can totally see where Samsung is coming from on this one, as there is far more involved in making a quality TV, beyond sourcing a great panel.

The easiest way to succeed in the excessive LSM is to connect with them by way of their most well-liked medium of alternative – email. There are of course other methods to market your product to more affluent shoppers, but none are as price effective as that of digital media. Maybe of even larger importance is that, unlike different types of advertising media that always fail to succeed in their designated viewers, electronic mail advertising achieves a direct link with focused individuals.

The reality is that rich individuals are busy people. They don’t have time to web page via product catalogues and flick by means of television channels; rather, they choose their media very selectively and keep away from bombardment by advertising messages. Because the saying goes: poor individuals have big TVs, rich people have massive libraries. For the marketer, then, electronic mail is a particularly effective software at reaching excessive LSMs as it (a) may be seen when the recipient chooses to entry it and (b) assuming that it is transmitted to high LSM customers who’ve opted-in to obtain messages, it is more more likely to appeal to their preferences.

With regards to focusing on the high LSM, advertising and marketing turns into an actual science. It is all about appealing to their tastes on the proper time, without beating in regards to the bush as a result of, as most of them will attest, time is a luxurious of nice worth. In different phrases, email advertising directed at rich markets must cut to the chase in a manner that highlights quality and value, whereas simultaneously reassuring them that their time (money) isn’t being wasted. And although worth may be very not often a deterrent for the wealthy, bargains are at all times appealing. Even more of a draw card is the providing of an incentive, as it doesn’t matter what one’s financial status is, everyone enjoys successful; which is why incentive-based mostly e mail advertising campaigns are nonetheless the way to go when dealing with the high LSM, or any demographic phase for that matter.

Take American Swiss’ current Christmas e mail marketing campaign for example: it’s simple and refined, and prompted conversions by redirecting customers to their official website and attractive them to pick out and submit a “Wishlist” of merchandise which they then stood an opportunity to win. With an open charge of fifty three p.c and click through rate of roughly 27 p.c, the campaign was an enormous success and clearly demonstrates the effectiveness of e mail advertising at focusing on the high LSM. Moreover, by advertising their merchandise through an incentive-primarily based call to action, in addition to highlighting worth reductions on selected gadgets, American Swiss basically promoted their merchandise from both angles. Put another way, by motivating shoppers to submit their want record they had been, in impact, made aware of the product vary on offer. And that is all American Swiss needed because, let’s face it, their jewelry is visually engaging by default.

In addition to with the ability to effectively attain recipients, e-mail additionally compliments a type of advertising most relevant to the high LSM – phrase of mouth. Excessive LSM groups are well-known for putting great emphasis on friend and family referrals, especially in the mean time of buy; and due to its viral capabilities, e mail advertising and marketing messages enable high revenue earners to do so with ease and effectivity – the ultimate dream for marketers.

Electronic mail marketing is actually probably the most powerful option to tap into a market that may generate huge income for your business. Like American Swiss, if finished correctly, you may see your response rates climbing to new heights, along together with your gross sales, and at little expense compared to conventional media.
