Visual Spice creates a 7-foot tall papercraft Gundam, films the entire process as a timelapse (video)

Posted by on Sunday, 13 November, 2011
Believe it or not, the massive seven-foot Gundam you’re looking at was mostly constructed out of paper — 720 sheets, to be exact. The papercraft artist behind the model, Taros Lesko (aka Visual Spicer), began creating it nearly a year ago, and estimates that it took him about 350 hours and four to five months to complete. As explained on his video commentary, the process started with building a store-bought model for photographs, using the shots to render it in 3D on his computer. After that, he created various templates using a variety of programs, which were then printed, cut and assembled into place. Notably, the final product has 1,250 total parts, weighs in at about 10 pounds and packs an internal 12-piece foamboard skeleton to stand. All of that is only the part of the final product, though.

Taking it a few steps further, he created a bevy of “fantasy shots” (like the one above) with his brother, Ivan — and of course, Photoshop — and even filmed both endeavors as timelapse videos. According to Taros, the aim was to make something “bigger and better” than the four-foot papercraft Gundam, which he made nearly three years ago and burned to ashes on video prior to this project — we’d say mission accomplished. You’ll find the construction timelapse video after the break, along with more related vids and photos at the source link below.

[Thanks, Christos]

Endorphin Championship Wrestling: The New Breed

Posted by on Sunday, 20 June, 2010

Send me your email address if you want a Lockerz.com invitation. Get free electronics for watching music videos! ————————- I really think this is my last video, I have run out of ideas and endorphin has really become a bore for me. I really struggled to finish this vid because I really lost interest by the end. I still look forward to seeing some really good vids from the endorphin community though. If someone can really step it up and make something good, I might be inspired to make a new short vid but I doubt that will happen.

Just because it’s a game system doesn’t mean it can’t be girly? =) I painted my Xbox 360 faceplate myself, using a small brush and plastic-adhering paint (because I did a zebra pattern it was SO easy, you can’t tell if i screwed up or not! haha!). The song playing in the background is Snake Devil by Scary Kids Scaring Kids I bought my phone cover from LuxAddiction.com, they do several different kinds of phone covers, iPhone, Blackberry, HTC… they’re really really great quality but be prepared to wait a while to get your cover.

DXG 3D Camcorder

DXG 3D front small-thumb-461x550-31674

By Evan Ackerman

What with all of those 3D TVs that everybody was flogging to death at CES last week, it sure would be nice if you could, you know, create your own 3D video content. This camcorder from DXG has just about everything you’d expect from a consumer video cam, except that it’s got an extra lens next to the first to let you take stereoscopic vids. It’s cheap, too, at only $400.

Cheap 3D recording? I know, you’re thinking there must be a catch. And there is, and it sucks. The catch is that the camcorder takes 3D video in Motion JPEG, and it seems likely that you’ll only be able to watch that video (in 3D, anyway) on a 7″ digital video frame that DXG includes with the camcorder. So yes, it doesn’t matter if you have a 3D TV or not, since you probably won’t be able to play back this camcorder’s 3D recordings on it.

The camcorder, with the video frame included, should be available this June.

Time Out launches London Connect social media web pages

It not so much a new site unto itself but the addition of the London Connect pages to the Time Out London site are certainly a breath of fresh web 2.0 air. If you’ve ever trawled the listings of the older online areas you probably gave up after a few clicks but this launch offers a much more immediate and accessible look at what’s going on in town that you might actually want to go to. The most obvious of the social media additions are the live Twitter updates from each of the Time Out departments, ie: Art, Film, Music, Food & Drink, Theatre. You can search through the lot as well as see all the RTs and @replies in the Backchat section for a better picture of how the events are being viewed about the web in general. There’s also long overdue video reviews to give you a far better idea of what it is the critics are recommending before you make some hideous mistake and take you parents to an S&M themed restaurant. Last of all is the Win+1 area which gives users the chance of getting themselves on the guest list of all the big goings on in town. It’s a little sparse content-wise at the moment but it’s early days and, once they fill it up with vids and comps, it’ll be a much more effective tool for getting the most out of the Big Smoke. Go and have a look for yourself and, at the least, follow a few of the team on Twitter.
