Nintendo says one Wii U controller per console, robs player two of extra screen

Wii U supports multiple screen-controllers, games will only use one for now

Nintendo’s tablet-esque Wii U controller raised a few questions when it was announced at E3. Questions like, “What kind of crazy games are going to use that thing,” and “How much will a second controller cost me?” The latter, at least, has been answered. Nothing. You don’t need one. Nintendo’s Satoru Iwata recently said in an interview that games enlisting more than one Wii U controller aren’t being considered just yet — although they are possible. Our very own Ittosai tells us that Iwata told Diamond Online that the Wii U can technically support multiple screen-controllers, but that additional slabs would be too expensive to sell on their own. Iwata went on to say that the console would ship with only one, and that game developers should design titles under the assumption that each console will use a single Wii U controller. Player two will have to settle for a good ‘ol Wiimote, and even Satoru himself admits that there are plenty of those around.

Nintendo Unleash an Amazing Fighter With Wii’s Tournament of Legends!

Posted by on Thursday, 20 May, 2010

The list of Nintendo Wii exclusive Beat Em Up games continues to increase lately as following hot on the heels of Tatsunoko vs Capcom now we have an entirely new game; Wii’s Tournament of Legends. From developers High Voltage, this game is the beginning in a projected series of weapons-centric fighters.

Wii’s Tournament of Legends is based around Greek and Roman mythology, featuring fighters based mostly on legends from that period. Every fighter is equipped with a unique weapon, but as the single player mode goes on this weapon will be augmented and levelled up with different talents, which helps to make fighting fairly varied.

The gaming is as standard for a Beat Em Up, but a couple of interesting additions have been thrown in. The camera pans to favour the player dealing essentially the most damage, so if you’re administering a bit of a pasting to your opponent the camera will zoom in to your moves. Furthermore, each stage in Wii’s Tournament of Legends includes a ‘Guardian’, an NPC that will charge in at random intervals to attack you and your opponent. These assaults should be avoided or countered, and add an additional dynamic to the system.

The Wiimote and Nunchuk are each used in Wii’s Tournament of Legends, and every controller corresponds to both your right or left arm as you attack and shield. Nevertheless, control pad recognition is included for people who like the classic style.

This game is looking to be another awe- inspiring Wii Beat Em Up. The fighting is looking stable enough and the little extras aid to spice up a tried and tested formula. The subject material is refreshing and makes a good change to the usual set of characters we would usually see. Wii’s Tournament of Legends is released this summer time, and could well be worth checking out!

You get a full QWERTY keyboard complete with directional keys and various multimedia-specific buttons, and instead of having to use a trackpad to control the on-screen cursor, the Fly Mouse has a built-in gyro essentially allowing you to use it like a Wiimote. A 2.4GHz RF signal provides a wireless range of up to about 32 feet, and you can order one from Taobao for about $50, english manual probably not included.

Wait, HP has a Wiimote too?

Once we’d seen the and the Eee stick, we figured the knockoff motion controllers were pretty much done. But then, of course, there was the Sony Move. And Project Natal. And now there’s the HP Swing? Please let it be India-exclusive so we don’t have to worry about it… yes!

Apparently without fanfare, or even an announcement, the Swing is coming bundled with mid-range Pavilion desktops over on the sub-continent. And according to the source, HP is claiming it’s the first time motion control has been available on the PC. HP, it’s good to do research before making claims like that.

I should know — I’m the world’s smartest mancitation needed.

It does have one distinguishing feature, however: it looks like a peanut. There’s a big market for that among bonobos and ungulates aged 7-14.
