Growing The Speed On Your Low cost Desktop Computer

Okay, so you went out and acquired an inexpensive desktop laptop and you find it just isn’t up to speed, literally. There’s nothing incorrect with that. It’s a fixable situation. I am going to let you know the way to treatment that situation. There’s a way and it really works for affordable laptop computers also.

First a quick lesson in computers. Think about the next:

The Processor is your motor. It determines how briskly you possibly can go from 0 to 60mph.

The arduous drive is is your file cupboard . The larger your file cabinet is, the extra stuff you can maintain until you want it.

Memory or RAM is your workbench. The bigger your workbench the more things you can do at one time.

Now, lets speed this outdated low-cost desktop pc up just a little bit. Unless you built it your self, your system got here with a variety of momentary applications. (Short-term, as a result of they are teasers and hope you’ll purchase the total version.) In addition they come with a great many purposes you probably won’t ever need. The key here is to do one thing about them. Let’s get started.

Click on Begin; then click on Run and kind in “MSCONFIG” and click Okay. A window will open with several tabs across the top. Click on the Software tab. You will see a lot of information with little examine bins on the left. Programmers are egotistical. They suppose any software they write must be loaded any time you boot your system. Out of all of those checked, the one ones you really need are: SYSTRAY and Windows Explorer

If they don’t seem to be there, don’t fret about it. Some variations of Home windows do not show them. The other thing you want is a virus checker. You probably did set up one didn’t you? Your system probably came with one but it is going to be a temporary version. Be sure you’ve gotten a virus checker and keep it up to date

Take the checks out of all the containers at the left by clicking on them. Click on Apply and OK.

The panel will tell you your system must be rebooted in order for the changes to take effect. Do that. When the reboot is accomplished, an data panel will open telling you some configuration adjustments have been made. Well, Duhhh, you simply made them. Put a verify mark on the tiny sq. on the left and tell the system to not reboot at this time. Congratulations! You’ve simply increased the velocity of your desktop laptop!

If you feel a real want for velocity, the one most essential thing you are able to do, and the most affordable, by the way, is to extend your memory. By that I mean make your workbench bigger. An actual clue that you want more reminiscence is to hearken to your system as you’re doing things. Do you hear numerous clicking? That is the hard drive at work. If you don’t have enough memory, your system will still try to do what you instructed it however with the intention to make room, it has to clear some house on the workbench, in memory. To do this, it moves issues in and out of reminiscence to the hard drive. This takes up laptop cycles which equate to time. What it is advisable to do is improve the amount of memory. I’d suggest you’ve gotten at least 2gb in the event you do something more than homework and browsing the internet. It isn’t expensive. Nonetheless, it have to be added in matched pairs. In other words, if you wish to add 2gb, then you definitely buy 2 1gb modules. Installation is easy, however if you’re leery about cracking the case, a Best Purchase, Circuit Metropolis, or a Mom and Pop repair shop will do it for about $27.

Growing your memory can increase the pace by as much as 40%. Consider me, it’s value it, especially in case you do something with photos or video, or audio. You possibly can take that low cost desktop computer of yours and make it right into a workhorse.

G0 ahead and get to it. If you have any questions, put up them in The Geek’s Pc Weblog and I will answer them at my first opportunity.

My title is Rick. I am seventy four years of age and have labored in computer systems since 1957. I turned hooked on what you are able to do with a very good pc and camcorder a few years ago. I also have particular results software that permits you to create special effects in your video throughout the enhancing process. I additionally use animation software. Use your iPod as a hard disk

Connect your iPod to your computer and open iTunes.
When the iPod icon appears in the iTunes window (below Devices), select it.
If the Summary pane isn’t showing, click the Summary tab.
Click the “Enable disk use” checkbox, and then click Apply.
Close iTunes and notice that your iPod appears on your Mac desktop or in the Windows Explorer on your PC.
To eject the iPod on a Mac, select the iPod on the desktop and drag it to the Trash.

To eject the iPod on a PC, select the iPod in the Windows Explorer, right click on the iPod and then choose Eject from the pop-up menu that appears. Or at the bottom-right of the screen, click the ‘Safely Remove Hardware’ icon.

Here is another way of doing it

Fine Tune Your PC

Posted by on Monday, 12 April, 2010

The next time your change the oil in your car, think of your personal computer. You flush the oil in your car to get rid of the gunk and sediments that have slowly been deposited over time. Your PC tends to have many of deposits that come from a variety of sources. Each time a file is modified it may be moved or become fragmented (spread across different areas of the hard disk instead of remaining one intact whole). “Temporary” files are created that remain in the system, potentially forever. Keys and entries are added to the Windows Registry that are never removed. It all adds up to one slow computer, but there are several things you can do to fine tune your PC into top performance.

The quickest and easiest thing to do is defrag your hard-drive. All Windows systems come equipped with Defrag.exe, a powerful little tool that rearranges the files on your hard drive for optimal performance. To “defrag” your drive, open up Windows Explorer (not to be confused with Internet Explorer) and right click on the drive you want to defragment (usually the C: drive). Click on Properties at the bottom of the drop down menu and then click the Tools tab at the top. Click the middle button that says “Defragment Now…” to run defrag.exe. Click the Defragment button and your off and running. Cclose all programs before doing this and don’t plan to do any work on your compute for a while. Running defrag could take up to some hours or even overnight.

You need also open the Start Menu and click “Run…” Enter “msconfig” (don’t(do not) use the quotes) and click OK to run the System Configuration Utility. Click the Startup tab and you will see a list of all the services and programs that load automatically every time you start Windows. Keep your antivirus program and every programs you use regularly, but if you see programs you don’t use, simply uncheck the box. When you restart Windows, you will be asked if you want to run the utility again, so you can undo any changes if you made a mistake.

It’s also very important to clean the Windows Registry. This is not something you really want to try one your own, since one mistake could prevent your computer from booting or functioning properly. Several software companies offer programs to do this for you, each with its own strengths and capabilities.

One website that reviews and compares registry cleaning software is Answer Registry Reviews at  The site offers relevant articles on the Windows Registry and compares various registry cleaning software products. The website even offers links to directly download and purchase products such as RegCure, Registry Mechanic and Registry Easy (among others) online. If your Windows system is running slowly or you suspect a virus, Answer Registry Reviews should be the first stop for information on what might be causing the problem and to download a product that would meet your needs to correct it.

This is what happens when your mother-in-law uses Internet Explorer

Why-you-dont-use-Internet-ExplorerI removed IE from the desktop, taskbar, Start Menu, and even hid the icon in Windows Explorer. I then installed Firefox and Chrome and renamed them both “Internet.” But yet somehow my mother-in-law still found a way to use Internet Explorer and wonders why her computer runs like poo. Oh, and she wants to keep all of the toolbars. She uses them.
