A laptop is equipped with a built in wireless network adapter to allow access to the web. WiFi is the name provided the wireless connection to the web. You just must have a wireless internet for laptop that connects to the web using wireless internet cards for laptops in order to go online anywhere and anytime. The laptop with the help of its inbuilt wireless adapter can connect to a WiFi router, that is able to transmit radio signals to it if it is in close range. You just need to connect to a proper WiFi router to get on the web.

You may not be able to access the WiFi feature of your laptop using wireless internet cards for laptops for a pair of reasons: the WiFi option may be disabled or locked by a password. You can enable the wireless internet for laptop in order to connect it with the wireless router. You can also get the internet servicer to arrange your wireless connections for you.

Due to carelessness your wireless internet for laptop at home may be used by neighbors or strangers to connect to the web. Many stores, restaurants, cafes, and clubs have free WiFi in order to attract customers. You can locate free WiFi by several ways if there is one available in your area. The wireless network icon shows the networks available, that are available at the moment, and reviewing it often is the best way. You can check whether the available network is secured or unsecured by just highlighting it. A secure network would prompt for a password where the open network wouldn’t.

A small battery powered device, that lets you know whether WiFi networks are available close by and if they are secure. Companies like Hawking and Kingston Technologies sell these devices. It is effective since it lets you know and saves the trouble of manually looking for WiFi connections. The high end versions come equipped with a signal booster and a wireless network adapter. They’re very practical for frequent travellers.

There are websites that provide you info about wireless internet for laptop. You just need to enter your postal code and it will show you the WiFi networks in your locality. However, the trouble with these websites is that they are not able to stay current with the frequent adjustments to the network. Cellular WiFi is the new way of wireless internet for laptops. Cellular WiFi provides access to the web with the help of a cellular modem, that is available in USB or PC card format. You can subscribe to a suitable data plan for a fee. However, this will allow you to get on the web using wireless internet cards for laptops from anywhere even while travelling in a bus or cab.

The wireless communication is developing on a high speed and present a lot of new option every user. Thanks to the manufacturers who now produce the laptops with built in wireless switches, there is no need to use the wireless cards. Nowadays a lot of people are using the wireless laptops. It became extremely convenient to connect the network and disconnect it.

Wireless laptop function the same way as the traditional LAN, but the only difference is in the usage of the wires. Wireless is equipped with the wireless technology and there is no need at using the wires. The peculiarity of the system is that it catches the signals that are transmitted frequencies of the radio type that is why the wires are not needed at all. The notebooks are extremely portable. Besides they can be taken anywhere and provide the user with the access to the internet as long as the laptop is in the wireless area.

In order to prepare the laptop for the wireless network, the access point has to be installed. Basically it is known as network hub. It is a center of the wireless technology in some particular location and allows the user to use a couple of wireless devices at the same time. However this is not the only benefit of the network hub. It also allows having a few devices using the same network simultaneously. A couple years before in order to be connected to the wireless network; the user had to have a special card. Fortunately, the process of connecting the wireless network became faster and easier. However, there is such type as a dial up connection which is provided with the wires of the telephone line.

Wireless connection opened us a huge variety of different possibilities that were not known before. In most of the campuses f the universities and high schools there is a wireless connection that allows that allows the students to keep in touch with each other and with the professors. It became possible to contact each other being on huge distances. Wireless internet became also a huge achievement for the business. There appeared a chance to connect each other being in the remote areas. Besides, they can realize their projects being out of the office.

A lot of the cafes, restaurants and libraries are equipped with the wireless network and allow permanent access to the internet. The customer can just take the laptop and while staying in the café use the global network. It became so easy and fast to connect the network, that a lot of people can not imagine their life without using the wireless connection. Wireless connection offers us a huge variety of different possibilities.

Do you know that you can get free laptop? Learn how to get a free laptop on this site which is monitoring “free laptop” offers.

Like most editors at CNET, I often receive questions from CNET readers about specific problems. Here are a few that were brought up to me in the last month.

It's probably time I went wireless myself.
(Credit: Dong Ngo/CNET)

Q: My laptop's Wireless-N adapter only caps at 130Mbps even though my D-Link DIR-855 can offer 300Mbps speeds. What can I do to boost the wireless speed of the laptop?

A: That might already be the best you can get. Wireless-N (802.11n) comes in different "tiers" with different amounts of streams (also referred to as antennae). Each stream offers a throughput speed up to 150Mbps.

While most routers are dual-stream and cap at 300Mbps (future ones can even support multistream, offering speeds up to 450Mbps or even 600Mbps), a lot of adapters built in to laptop and notebook computers to conserve the battery life use the single-stream standard. This means they cap at 150Mbps (which translates into something around 130Mbps, which is plenty fast, by the way). Also note that the throughput decreases as you increase the range. Generally the optimal range for the Wireless-N is between 15 feet and 70 feet away.

Q: Does my laptop have to have a dual-band adapter to take advantage of dual-band routers, such as the Linksys WRT610n, the Apple Airport Extreme or the D-Link DIR-825?

A: No, it doesn't matter how many bands an adapter supports; wireless networking devices only connect to one another in one band at a time.
