Triton 36,000 submarine to plumb ocean’s deepest depths, comes in yellow (video)

Richard Branson’s not the only one eager to explore that other 70 percent of the world. Triton Submarines has designed a three-passenger sub able to dive 36,000 feet, reaching the deepest part of the world’s oceans. And while Sir Richard envisions a spaceship-like craft, Triton’s design evokes old school bathyspheres: it’s a glass globe. Of course, water pressure poses a serious engineering challenge when you descend seven miles below the surface — the last manned sub to reach that depth had only a single, small window made of plexiglass. The current design uses borosilicate glass (like those transparent displays we, um, saw through a while back) that actually grows stronger as depth pressure increases; it took eight months of careful heating and cooling to produce. Assuming the glass holds, it will take about 75 minutes to reach the bottom of the ocean. Anyone considering a test run should check out the PR video after the break, showing Triton’s other submarines in action.

A Flash Drive for Beatles Fanatics

Posted by on Saturday, 6 February, 2010

Hardcore fans of The Beatles can get themselves a flash disk packed with 14 remastered hits, and 13 “mini-documentaries” featuring the influential rock band. Even better, the digital content (FLAC for the songs, and MP4 for the vids) are not just stored on your typical thumb drive, but in a specially-crafted green aluminum apple. The whole package is called The Beatles [USB].

The actual flash disk is within the apple’s stalk, while the apple’s body is distinctive decoration—and most likely would make a decent paperweight for all that Beatles paraphernalia. Here’s are more details about The Beatles [USB]:

  • 13 mini-documentaries in MPEG4 video format
  • Custom-designed FLASH player menu system with full booklet artwork, album cover wallpapers and photo gallery.

That’s right, you really get what you pay for, as the music is DRM-free! Get The Beatles [USB] from Amazon.com today! At the very least, you also get a pretty stylish flash disk!

The Beatles Rock Band track list

Rock-Band-Beatles.jpg

The track list for The Beatles Rock Band game is out. It’s a little heavy on the Ringo songs. There’s two. But I don’t suppose you can complain when one of them’s Yellow Submarine. There’s supposed to be 42 in total but our list seems only to have 25, so Harmonix, EA and MTV are probably holding a few speical ones back to make another splash before the big release on 09/09/09. See what they did there? The game will be out on all the usual boxes with any instruments compaitble that you happen to have for Guitar Hero or previous Rock Band titles. So far, we have US pricing only, with the standalone software at $59.99, the full bundle at $249.99, the Rickenbacker 325 Guitar at $99.99 and the Gretsch Duo Jet at the same price. All the instruments look pretty speical, apart from the drum kit that comes across slightly wack, and although the songs might lack the kind of bite you’d normally expect from these games, the addition of the rock hard, three-part harmonys do add a certain edge. There’ll also be plenty of downloadable content, including the full Abbey Road album, and you can pick up All You Need Is Love as an Xbox 360 exclusive. All download proceeds will go to charity. How nice is that?

  • I Saw Her Standing There
  • I Want To Hold Your Hand
  • I Feel Fine

  • Here Comes The Sun
  • Get Back
  • Twist And Shout
  • Do You Want To Know A Secret

  • Within You Without You/Tomorrow Never Knows
  • Yellow Submarine
  • Revolution
  • Birthday
  • Dig A Pony
  • I’ve Got A Feeling

More info on the game as we get it but what I’ve seen so far will not disappoint both fans of theses titles and fans of the Fab Four too. The Beatles Rock Band

Guitar Lessons Dvd: Private Lessons At Home

Posted by on Saturday, 4 July, 2009

Here’s a few suggestions from a wide range of artists and genres. “Feel” and “Angels” by Robbie Williams, “American Pie” by Don McLean, “From the Beginning” by Emerson Lake and Palmer, “Cecilia” by Simon and Garfunkel, “Feelin’ Groovy” by Simon and Garfunkel, “Blowin In The Wind” by Bob Dylan, “Big Yellow Taxi” by Joni Mitchell, “More Than Words” by Extreme, “Under The Bridge” by Red Hot Chilli Peppers, “Yellow Submarine” by The Beatles, “House Of The Rising Sun” by The Animals, “Wild Thing” by The Troggs and “Runaway” by The Corrs. You can be as basic or as flashy as you like because the songs stand up by themselves with just basic accompaniment or you can use any of the classical guitar style arrangements that you can find in music shops. You might want to think about an instrumental piece to continue the mood once the singing has died away.

Before you get guitar instruction dvds, remember that you are going to give this person your time and more importantly, your money. So make sure the teacher is a good one before you invest. Go online, see if you can find any write-ups on them, check the papers, ask around, talk to friends. But make sure the teacher is a good one and has a good reputation.

Don’t turn your guitar practice time into extended guitar solos. If you have a track of say, six minutes at your disposal, use it to practice licks and short solo breaks, the age of the twenty minute solo is long gone. Also, make use of your backing tracks to improve the basic aspects of your guitar playing like your timing As with some other folk styles from various parts of the world, the guitar was originally just part of the rhythm section. The guitarist could be heard playing the odd bass run but apart from that he was in the background.

It’s easy to pick up bad habits from them. It may be that this pro is a natural like you, but one that didn’t take lessons, or spend months and years perfecting his technique. So I recommend you get guitar instructional dvd. Don’t get frustrated at this point. Take a deep breath and take comfort in that you have made the first step in learning how to practice the guitar seriously.

As a beginner learning to play the guitar can seem like a pretty steep hill to climb. There are notes and chords to learn and correct finger placement and technique to establish. Don’t be discouraged to quickly by letting these things get you frustrated. These tips should help you get started, and if you’re serious about taking some guitar lessons for beginners don’t waste another second and check out this review for an award winning guitar course that I recommend. Another characteristic of Metal guitar is the use of drop tunings. It gives you a totally different kind of control over your strings, your sound is more aggressive and you can do more with hammer-ons and tapping.

guitar lessons dvd FIRST rule: It’s ok to be sad. Really. Gotta pay your dues if you wanna sing the blues and you know it don’t come easy, as Ringo Starr once sang. If there’s one thing universal about human nature is that we all experience the blues, we all have our own share of sadness and heartbreak. Add your heartbreak to that guitar, you’re on your way to sing the blues. Surprised this isn’t the first rule? This is the technical side of things.
